Really simple packings tips that will help you

When you are moving home, packing can commonly be considered a nightmare! With the experience we have here at Thameside Removals, we say to all our customers that you can never be too prepared. Here are our top tips on prepping for a successful move.

Organise your packing

Keep a structure to your packing method, for example keep items from the same rooms in the same boxes. This will mean when it comes to unpacking you will be able to access the items needed in each room. You can also colour code the boxes in order of priority so you can access the essentials easily. Once you have organised each of your boxes into themes or section, make sure you clearly label them and label the way up the box needs to be.

Get rid of things you won’t need

We all have those inexpensive items we have kept in the back of our cupboard, under the bed or stored away in the garage for a day you may end up using, get rid of it. It is taking up space in your current home, and it will no doubt clutter up your new place. Moving home is a fresh start, start it right.

Keep a calendar/ticklist

Of course, the big day will be noted on your calendar, but are you making a note of the different dates you should be aware of before you move? For example, days in which your bins and recycling are being taken with be very helpful when you are trying to declutter. You can also schedule free donation pickup days and unwanted furniture removal days.

Electrical goods in original packaging

If you still have the original packaging for any of your electronic goods it is always worth using it. The original packaging is tailor-made to protect and contain the item in the most compact and efficient way. The packaging being pre-labelled as well it will also help you organise your electrical goods.

Stock up on moving and packing supplies

Parcel tape, screwdrivers and coloured pens are all examples of items you will find useful, so make sure you are stocked up. It’s also important to keep a measuring tape on you at all times to ensure you can have a full visual of your new home.

Take photos of items

You may have some old flat pack furniture you wish to move, of course, it is most convenient to take it apart and reassemble it in your new home. However, if you don’t have the instructions lying around it’s not quite so simple! Keep a photo record of the fully constructed item to help the reassembly process. This would also be useful if you have electronics wired up in a complex way, or a specific ornamental display.
